Beijing Modern Dance/LDTX
http://www.beijingldtx.com
Founded by veteran choreographers and a new generation of dancers in China, BeijingDance / LDTX is a platform for contemporary creations. Under the artistic direction of Willy Tsao, China’s foremost figure in modern dance, and deputy artistic director Li Hanzhong, the company boasts an ensemble technically exquisite dancers and a diverse repertoire. Based in China’s capital, BeijingDance / LDTX serves as both a leader and a catalyst for the modern and contemporary dance and dance appreciation movement. In June 2006, the company founded LDTX II in order to further nurture young talent. By presenting new choreographers and providing platforms for developing artists, BeijingDance / LDTX pioneers China’s most cutting edge choreography.
Children’s Academy of Artistic Dance (CAAD)
The Children’s Academy of Artistic Dance (CAAD) is a dance academy committed to providing quality dance instruction, building confidence within our students and promoting dance as a healthy lifestyle, determined to bridge the gap between formal, disciplined and traditional dance education which emphasizes technical dance skills and nurturing children’s natural sense of movement. In other words, dance steps can be taught and remembered, but inspiration and creativity is needed for children to naturally express their emotions. GtB was honored to have the Children's Academy of Artistic Dance contribute a special Dai minority performance at the Climate Action Carnival, in celebration of International Day of Climate Action, October 24, 2009.
MOLLY'S CHANDLERY
http://www.myspace.com/mollyschandlery
Chris Yew (Molly’s Chandlery) is an acoustic singer-songwriter who creates jaunty ballads and jittery folk in a style compared with Devendra Banhart, Joni Mitchell and Fionn Regan. Originally from London, the city and its characters are often the subject of his haunting vocals and colourful finger-picking. Keen on participating in an event that is focused on making a difference in Beijing and on a much wider scale, he thinks Greening the Beige has these objectives and would like to offer his music to support their cause.
Willow Willow
http://www.willowwillow.net
Twenty-eight year old fashion designer, Alicia Lee's independent label WillowWillow and studio (formerly NOISE shop) was found in 2008 at Sanlitun. With the concept of high-quality original design for young people, WillowWillow contains three sections—the ready-to-wear collection, original couture service, and limited edition tees—which all target young fashionable professionals, among which a lot are designers of different fields and upcoming actresses. Besides that, you can also find cool little goodies like toys, interesting books, stickers, postcards, jewelries, etc. With a young, playful yet sophisticated heart, Alicia has created fashion collections such as “Hero of the Forest and Lord of the Opera” and “Lost in Peach Blossom Land”, which all showed a unique perspective of culture and the experimentations of high-tech natural fibers. The new collection with the theme “the Cube” creates a magical world of cubes--a surreal world with no color but transformation of forms, a story about geometric reveries amidst ultimate loneliness.
(Zack Jiang)
Originally born in Beijing, Zack Jiang grew up along opposing coasts of United States for much of his life, influenced heavily by the nature of the Applications and the California coastline. Seeking a medium between personal sanity and self-propelled creations, his project is rooted in his personal fulfillment in biking and an interest in pushing social thinking towards sustainable designs. By presenting bamboo bikes in a physical format for Beijing and China Zack aims to rewire the cultural acceptance of bamboo from historic uses (brooms, clothing poles and scaffolding) to allow acceptance of new forms of product design.

Flo Eysler
Flo started producing and recording dance music in 1992 and began his DJ career about 1 year later. After countless gigs and events he started hosting his own regular club nights in and around Munich, Germany. To further his musical ambitions Flo and partners went on to open his recording studio "F44 Music Production" in 1998.
From early 1999 more than 20 records were released on labels like Virgin Records, Warner Music, House Nation, Edel / Club Tools, CMR, X-it, Balloon Records & AdrenalinItaly. Several of these records entered European sales charts and made it onto CDcompilations around the world. In 2001 the song ‘Fire’ was awarded with a professionalmusic video production (copy of the video available on request). While the tracks of H44 were usually targeted for the more commercial & trance drivendance floors, Flo always kept his Dj sets true to deep & groovy House Music.
From 2000 onwards, Flo pioneered pushing the progressive UK sound to Germany which earned him bookings all around South Germany, Austria and Italy. Due to his move to China in 2003, Flo sold his share in H44 Music and focused on working in other industry fields.
During 2006 Flo returned to Djing with an initial gig in Fuzhou (South China) and since spring 2007 he adds his crisp and very own musical selection to the floors all over China. He recently joined the artist roster of BaiCai Productions, the most influential promotersfor Techno & House Music in Beijing. Flo has always kept his musical style unique and innovative. His musical influences are based on 80ties Electronic Sounds and early 90ties Techno & House Beats. His Dj sets musically are best described as Deep, Groovy & Driving House Music combined with minimal and technoid elements with twisted vocals on top.
Reason for participating in Greening the Beige: Flo aims to move people's dancing feet into action towards a greener Beijing.

ZIYO
www.myspace.com/ziyo
ZIYO started sometime in January 2004, when Helen walked into a guitar shop and was conned into guitar lessons by lead guitarist Da Ming. Two lessons in, they both came to the conclusion that 1 Helen had no real talent as a guitarist, and 2 Da Ming had no great patience for teaching. But they manage to salvage the relationship by forming a band, later recruiting Mao Mao whom Da Ming had met in a subway underpass only months before with similar dreams of rock stardom. Mao Mao recruited Zhang Jie an ex-bandmate in a very briefly formed death metal band, and Ziyo was born.
In 3 short months, the band wrote 10 songs, 3 of which are still performed to this day. Because all the band members had such varied musical tastes, the result was 10 very very different songs. They ran from rough reggae, to sloppy jazz, to folk songs, to punk rock, to Emo, and even some nu metal. But everything despite the huge jumps in genres was packed full of funk beats, infectious guitar hooks, and strong melodies belted out by Helen who lived half her life in the American South.
The result was a resident gig at two of Beijing's more well known underground livehouses, the New Get Lucky Bar, and Nameless Highland. The band continued to play these 10 songs, with a new song every few months added to set for a year and a half before they realized they were getting bored as the Tuesday night house band and the filler band for gigs with bigger named bands that actually had their own "sound".
So the band went on haitus. Canceled most of the gigs for the next few months, went into the rehearsal studio to find a sound, and record some demos. Not long after the first few self-funded demo songs were sent out, Ziyo got attention from some of China's biggest record companies. In October of 2005, Ziyo signed Warner Music China as a developing band (before they found their "sound").
Wang hui, ex-guitarist from the punk band Gum, joined the band to add another layer of punky guitars, and in one short year, Ziyo wrote another 30 songs, and produced 20 more self-funded demos. They were all sent to Warner whom still shook their head at the young band. The genre's were still too broad, and they wanted the sound "poppier". But just before this still directionless band was re-packaged into a sugar-coated unoriginal faux-rock band made for pre-teens, a miracle happened. Helen fell off a wall shattered her jaw, and was hospitalized for 3 months.
During those three months, she had her i-pod on shuffle listening to everything from Bloc Party to Basement Jaxx, from Libertines to Peaches. Now with a strong sense of personal identity, still bandaged and newly rebuilt, she went to her first rehearsal post surgery with a "sound". Within days, all the various genres they had experimented with was roughly cut and mixed together. The result was 50's doo-woop melodies combined with dance and funk beats, space guitars efx, mixed with some very punk rock guitars. Don't know what it is, but it certainly was a sound. When asked what they wanted, the band simply answered "to see bodies moving underneath the stage, dancing not just pounding the sh** out of each other".
ZIYO released their first EP with Warner music in January of 2008. You can check out the EP on their Chinese website at www.myspace.cn/ziyo.

HOT & COLD
E-Mail: simonfrank91@gmail.com
Hot and Cold was formed in 1991 but only began playing music as late January 2005. While brothers Joshua and Simon are Canadian, they consider themselves a Beijing band and have performed exclusively in China. Their style varies from thrashing lo-fi loops to dreamy shoegaze. Sometimes two notes are better than twelve. Sometimes no notes are better than two. In December 2006, Hot and Cold reunited and performed at the encouragement of White's Zhang Shouwang and Shen Jing. They followed up with numerous performances during the summer of 2007 and beyond. Hot and Cold also play together and apart in experimental/punk outfit Fear the Talon, no wave collective Speak Chinese or Die and the concrete act 3951. In the words of City Weekend; "After criss-crossing the planet for the past three years, this pair of super experimental wunderkinds has finally set down in Beijing and is slowly shaping their thrashing noise into cosmic art"
Hot and Cold loves playing music but is also conscious of the negative changes occurring in the environment around us.
