GREEN QUOTE OF THE DAY

"Why are we being forced to choose between the economy and the environment? We tend to forget that without an environment we would not have an economy, as everything we consume and I mean everything comes from our environment."

~ Franke James (contemporary artist, photographer, writer)

Eco=Chic Kicks Off

Beijing's style watchers are buzzing with the recent kick-off of China Fashion Week. But only a few weeks before China's top designers debuted their Autumn/Winter 2010-2011 collections, the environmentally conscious and fashionable gathered at Lantern for ECO=CHIC This monthly party for the green and stylish also showcases local designers and retailers with green goods.

Inspired by TRASHION, this month's ECO=CHIC theme, I wore my eco-friendly bubble wrap dress to Lantern. A dress made of bubble wrap can keep you surprisingly warm -- plastic doesn't breathe, which is perfect for chilly evenings!

Earlier that evening, the Eco-fashion Forum featured an introduction to Eco=Chic by GreenLadyC and Miao Wong's announcement for Acupuncture's new Eco=Chic fashion accessories (huang bao wallets made out of old event posters, sold at NLGX). Ed Fung from NLGX introduced their design mission: "Preserve...Create". Beijing's fashionable trashionista, Currie Lee, designer/owner, DimSum of All Things Asian [pictured above] introduced her SLOW FASHION business model concept. D-SATA also contributed a portion of sale items earlier this month to Roots & Shoots - Jane Goodall Institute. Erika Helms, Executive Director, R&S, finished the forum with a short presentation on the group's projects this year across China.

After having a few photos taken for the Gorgeous 'n Green' competition, I checked out my fellow green scenesters. Some wore jewelry made of recycled fruit wrapping, another wore a tie produced from old event flyers -- all very impressive!

Save the date, scenesters. The next Eco=Chic event will be on Earth Day, April 22. I look forward to seeing everyone that evening in their vintage best.
